For the first time ever, the Beltex champion came to the fore to take the supreme sheep award, to the delight of regular Ayr exhibitors John & Heather Barclay, Mid Brockloch, Maybole, who have secured the reserve supreme title on two previous occasions.
The topper was the two-shear tup Broughton McCosh, bought for 4800gns last year at Carlisle from Andrew and Michael Dunlop, Corstane, Biggar, and jointly owned with Daivd and Jane Cruikshank 'DRUMRASH'. Sired by Airyolland Kingsize and out of the past highland show champion Broughton Dorothy, he won his section and was reserve overall sheep at Catrine the previous week. Next month , he's heading to the highland. Picking him out as best from the 10 animals in the final line-up, was Scotch mule and Bluefaced Leicester breeder John Kerr, Craigskean, Maybole, who said his supreme sheep had few faults. "he is a very well fleshed and deep muscled and is a great example of the breed," he said.
